Are the posted questions getting worse?

This is really getting ridiculous. Why is it so hard for people to actual do some thinking instead of having things handed to them?  And yes, I gave in and did it.  Arg!

I won't "pile on" but I am curious... what's the link you're speaking of?

  • Heh... inline with the first interview question about how to get the current date and time, perhaps this should be the second question...

I have to admit, it's sometimes difficult to not bloody my head by doing a major head-desk. 😀  It's no wonder that a lot of DBAs brew their own beer... they need a constant supply to avoid the head-desk syndrome. 😀

Think you need to run your "S--p--e--l--l  i--t o--u--t" function on that answer.

And he still did it wrong.

"Look with eye" made me laugh out loud - but man, how accurate!

Technically that's a misquote.  Pretty sure Mr Myiagi (the senior DBA of course) stated "Look eye".

Still - bonus points for a perfect context in which to use the quote:D

  • Now this is just a little bit scary from someone who has been around SQL Server for 16 years: https://qa.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost1977555.aspx.

Or it could just be me, but I was learning about the system tables and views when I first started working with SQL Server.  Maybe not all of them but I knew they existed and where to find more information.

    OH MY!!!!

I think it's more telling that for someone who has been working with SQL Server for a long time, and didn't understand something that was (very) likely to be documented, their first action was to just ask the on a forum rather that research and learn about it themselves.

I can't believe that there's no shame and no pride on the part of the OP in doing something like this.  I knew the world was getting worse but didn't realize just how bad it's gotten.

Heh... I wonder if he knows how to get the current date and time? 😀

And no need to pile on.  I just wanted you to see it because I was totally gob smacked at the shear audacity of it all not to mention the total lack of personal ethics that just asking such a question represents.

    That...
    That was horrifying...
Half the time you can almost smell if a question is going to be someone's homework just from the title of the topic...
But that has new levels of "not even trying to pass of a homework question as my own work"
Honestly, *pictures* of the questions, not even trying to re-type them in their own words?
    Sheesh...

And then the total bullshit piece of "I am an Oracle person, just need to learn this in sql server". What a total crock. Joins work the same in both with identical syntax. Sad...

There are 2 main thing that would be different, probably 3 depending on how some people code.
    1. Parameter definition (syntax and types)
    2. Using a tally table to get all the dates in a year.
    3. Not having natural joins in T-SQL

However, someone that actually knows how to write SQL code, shouldn't have much problem coming out with some sort of solution.
